Baron Sigognac VSOP, Basquaise
Armagnac, 700 ml
The Baron de Sigognac 20 Year Old Bas Armagnac is a blend of Armagnacs of which the youngest component is 20 years old (available in beautiful wooden box). The Owners of Baron de Sigognac, The Guasch family, have been in Gascony since the 12th century. They have owned the château at Bordeneuve since 1974 and are one of the regions largest courtier and negociant operations. The Domaine is almost unique in the region as all its production is distilled into Armagnac instead of wine. The depth of colour and complexity of flavour increase all the time the spirit is aged in cask, the colour can range from pale straw to rich amber. As Armagnac ages it becomes darker in colour and softer, smoother and more elegant on the palate whilst aromas and flavours of prunes, violets, fig, honey, butterscotch and rancio develop.
Armagnac: high-percentage, high-standing, authentic
Gascony, in southwestern France, has retained its authentic rural charm to this day. Very similar traits are attributed to the brandy originating from here, Armagnac. While young Armagnac can taste lively and fiery, old, decades-aged selections reveal enormous finesse with unique character. Vintage bottlings are particularly exclusive – and accordingly expensive.
France – Philosophy in a bottle
According to French philosophy, wine should be an expression of the soil and climate. They use the word “terroir” to describe this. Terroir makes every wine different, and many especially good. French wine is regarded worldwide as an expression of cultural perfection. The French believe that humans are responsible for the quality of the berries, the vine variety for their character, and nature for the quantity. This philosophy can be expressed succinctly as: “the truth is the vineyard, not the man.”
