Description

Originally established as Aldour Distillery in 1798 (and changed to Blair Athol in 1825) this is one of the Diageo stable and a key component in their blends. The Blair Athol distillate is full bodied and typically at the nutty end of the flavour wheel. The bolder spirit lends itself to weightier cask maturation or finishing. In this case, The Whisky Cellar has given the whisky an extended maturation (over 18 months) in a fresh Moscatel wine cask. On the nose it exudes aromas of orange blossom, sugar coated almonds, and café mocha. On the palate enjoy notes of honey roasted nuts, yellow sultanas, dark rum, ground spices and condensed milk. The finish: A long and lingering sweetened nut quality while the spice is warming and mouth- coating.

Highlands: Clans, Schafe, Whiskys

Scotland – Wild history, warming whisky

Whiskey, bagpipes, kilts – These are the most famous elements of Scottish culture. It has not been conclusively determined who invented whisky. The Scots and Irish both argue that they invented the “water of life.” Food and drink definitely tops the Scottish export categories. Every second, around 40 bottles of whisky are purchased. So it’s hardly surprising that whisky makes up around 80 percent of total food and drink exports.
