Description

Delicious "passito" dessert wine from Forteto della Luja in Piedmont. The wine is made from 100% dried Brachetto grapes. The grapes are grown at over 400 metres above sea level. A picturesque area called Pian dei Sogni - which directly translates to "Dream Valleys of the Highlands". The grapes for the wine are harvested late and then dried. They are then pressed and the wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months. In the spring of the second year after the harvest, the wine is bottled. The Forteto resembles a cherry-red sweet wine with a nose of wilted fragrant roses, strawberry jam, cherry syrup and warming spices. Absolutely fantastic and suitable for further ageing. The wine is perfect with desserts or just to enjoy a quiet moment.

Brachetto

Already loved by the romans

The large-berried red Brachetto grape is a variety found almost exclusively in southern Piedmont, where it has been grown for many centuries in the provinces of Asti and Alessandria. The Brachetto grape was forgotten for a long time, until a group of vintners rediscovered it. Today it is grown on approximately 1,000 hectares. Though the grapes ripen late, they are very productive. Sweet and liquor-like wines are produced from this highly aromatic variety, which even the Romans appreciated. It is still disputed whether the Brachetto grape is related to the French cultivar Braquet Noir.

Italy – Where wine is a way of life

The Italian wine regions are extremely diverse, and this is made clear in their wines. Established varieties such as Merlot, Syrah, and Sauvignon can be found on just 15 percent of the total vine growing area. The remaining 85 percent is reserved for autochthonous, indigenous varieties. More than 2,000 different grape varieties are grown under diverse conditions and pressed with various techniques into wines that reach the top tier of the international wine market.
