Description
Some grape varieties never cease to surprise. Zibibbo, a variety from the Muscat family, is usually known for its sweet character. Yet this Sicilian wine impressively demonstrates just how exciting this variety can be when vinified as a dry wine. The organically cultivated vines grow near the coast of Mazara del Vallo on calcareous soils and benefit from the fresh sea breezes of the Mediterranean. Peach and Sicilian citrus fruits characterise the intense bouquet. On the palate, the wine is fresh and harmonious, with delicate minerality and a subtly salty finish. An authentic ambassador for Sicilian wine culture and the ideal accompaniment to fried or smoked fish, seafood and Mediterranean salad creations such as couscous salad with feta, olives and pine nuts.

Assuli
Anyone who discovers Assuli’s wines will experience the full flavour of Sicily. Between Marsala and Mazara del Vallo, shaped by the sun, the wind and the proximity to the Mediterranean, wines with an unmistakably Sicilian character are produced. The focus is on the island’s native grape varieties, foremost among them the aromatic Zibibbo, which has been firmly rooted in Sicily’s winemaking tradition for generations.
Behind Assuli stands the Caruso family, whose roots are deeply embedded in Sicily. For three generations, they have managed the estate themselves, consistently making bold and forward-looking decisions whilst never losing sight of tradition or their connection to their homeland. The name Assuli means «under the sun» and reflects the close bond with the island. The wine names also draw on Sicilian culture and are taken from the Renaissance epic «Orlando Furioso». The Zibibbo Dardinello, for instance, owes its name to a character from the epic who embodies courage, character and generosity. With great passion, the family has breathed new life into a historic 18th-century baglio. The former country estate now forms the heart of the winery and charmingly combines Sicilian heritage with a modern approach to quality.
Sicilia
Sicily: more than a wine island
The largest island in the Mediterranean has a greater variety and history of wine to offer than many wine-growing countries. The focus of this interest rests on the full, fruity, yet well-structured wines from the long-neglected red Nero d'Avola variety, and on the wholesome Catarratto white wines. In addition, two legendary wines are experiencing a well-deserved renaissance: the liqueur wines from Marsala and the growths from Mount Etna, with their impressive crispness and complexity.
Italy
Italy – Where wine is a way of life
The Italian wine regions are extremely diverse, and this is made clear in their wines. Established varieties such as Merlot, Syrah, and Sauvignon can be found on just 15 percent of the total vine growing area. The remaining 85 percent is reserved for autochthonous, indigenous varieties. More than 2,000 different grape varieties are grown under diverse conditions and pressed with various techniques into wines that reach the top tier of the international wine market.
