BIERZO

Descendientes de J. Palacios

Bierzo (Castile and León) is characterised by a cooler climate, old vines – particularly Mencía – and stony, sandy soils. The wines are elegant, fresh and mineral, with delicate fruit and great finesse.

Winemaker’s serving tip from Ricardo Pérez Palacios: «Anyone who wants to experience the Mencía grape in all its finesse should definitely drink the wines slightly chilled. Ideally at 14 to 18 degrees Celsius. When pouring, it should always be at 14 degrees,» says Ricardo. «It shows its best expression in a Burgundy glass.»

Rioja Oriental, the eastern Rioja, is synonymous with tradition, chalky soils, a mild climate influenced by the Mediterranean, and vineyard sites situated between 400 and 700 metres above sea level. The southern part of Rioja Oriental is considered the birthplace of Garnacha. The wines are harmonious, elegant and well-structured, with delicate fruit and additional maturity from ageing in wood. White wines made from the Viura grape – known as Macabeo in the rest of Spain – are also becoming increasingly important here.

Álvaro Palacios on the wines from his homeland Rioja: «Here, wines are created with enormous harmony, full of liveliness and vibrancy—wines that awaken you and bring you joy.»

PRIORAT

Álvaro Palacios

Steep vineyards, poor slate soils (llicorella) and very low yields make this region in Catalonia so distinctive. The result is concentrated, powerful wines—mainly from Garnacha and Cariñena grapes—with depth, minerality and excellent ageing potential.

Whether approachable entry-level wines or great single-vineyard bottlings such as L’Ermita: the wines always reflect their origin and take you on a sensory journey into this mystical, wild region.

Álvaro Palacios likes to serve his wines in a very unpretentious way, alongside chorizo and potato tortilla. At the same time, they are versatile food companions, pairing just as well with summer barbecues, autumnal game dishes or classic braised dishes, with or without meat.
