Grillo 2025
DOC Sicilia, Villa Carumè, 750 ml
Sicily’s Ambassador
- Grillo is one of Sicily’s most important white grape varieties and is at its very best here.
- It exudes floral and citrus notes, with a fresh, fruity and harmonious flavour.
- The perfect accompaniment to pan-fried or deep-fried fish, antipasti and Mediterranean cuisine.
Description
The Grillo grape variety originally hails from mainland Italy, but it has found its true home in Sicily, where it is now one of the island’s most important white wine grapes. Near the coast of Mazara del Vallo, the organically cultivated vines thrive on calcareous soils that are perfectly suited to this variety. The bouquet exudes aromas of flowers, lemon and orange. On the palate, the wine combines fruity richness with invigorating freshness and is wonderfully balanced. Enjoy it with antipasti, pan-fried or deep-fried fish, and Mediterranean specialities such as risotto ai frutti di mare or panzanella. A wine that feels like a mini-break on the Sicilian coast.

Villa Carumè – Assuli
Villa Carumè is situated between Mazara del Vallo and Trapani, where the wind blows in from the Mediterranean across the vineyards and the sun shines practically all year round. The vineyards benefit from a warm Mediterranean climate, plenty of sunshine and constant sea breezes. Here, wines are produced from typical Sicilian grape varieties such as Grillo and Nero d’Avola.
Behind Villa Carumè stands the Caruso family, which has been involved in viticulture in western Sicily for generations. The brand name pays homage to the family and emphasises the winery’s close connection to its origins and terroir. At the same time, Villa Carumè conveys this heritage in a youthful, playful and contemporary style.
The winery is housed in a renovated 18th-century baglio, where historic walls and modern cellar technology blend harmoniously. The focus is on meticulous work in the vineyard and precise winemaking, ensuring that each grape variety can develop its own character.
Sicilia
Sicily: more than a wine island
The largest island in the Mediterranean has a greater variety and history of wine to offer than many wine-growing countries. The focus of this interest rests on the full, fruity, yet well-structured wines from the long-neglected red Nero d'Avola variety, and on the wholesome Catarratto white wines. In addition, two legendary wines are experiencing a well-deserved renaissance: the liqueur wines from Marsala and the growths from Mount Etna, with their impressive crispness and complexity.
Italy
Italy – Where wine is a way of life
The Italian wine regions are extremely diverse, and this is made clear in their wines. Established varieties such as Merlot, Syrah, and Sauvignon can be found on just 15 percent of the total vine growing area. The remaining 85 percent is reserved for autochthonous, indigenous varieties. More than 2,000 different grape varieties are grown under diverse conditions and pressed with various techniques into wines that reach the top tier of the international wine market.
