Paolo Conterno – Tenuta Ortaglia
With Tenuta Ortaglia, Giorgio Conterno has combined his Piedmontese origins with a Tuscan passion. In addition to his Barolos from Piedmont, he is now devoting himself to a second project close to his heart – a place that has captivated him for years.
«Fate brought me to Ortaglia,’ he says. ‘I happened to hear about it, and shortly afterwards I was there. I knew immediately that Ortaglia was a special place.’ It took eight years to complete the takeover. ‘But it was worth it. Tuscany and Piedmont are the two regions where I can best express my passion – living close to nature and working in the vineyard to create wines, as I learned to do according to old traditions.»

Tenuta Ortaglia actually has a long history: in 1586, Francesco I de' Medici chose the estate as a summer residence for Bianca Cappello. Nestled in the hills of Fiesole at the foot of the Apennines, it offers sweeping views over Florence – a landscape that impressively combines history, culture and nature.
Today, the estate comprises 12 hectares of land with loamy-calcareous soils and sandstone marl. At around 600 metres above sea level, the vineyards are characterised by a temperate, Mediterranean-influenced climate, with striking temperature differences between day and night ensuring freshness, depth of aroma and structure.
This unique Tuscan interpretation produces wines full of character with a clear signature. They do not follow the mainstream, but reflect the terroir, altitude and personal convictions of their winemaker – a confident counterpart to the Piedmontese heritage of the Conterno family.

Standing on La Gerla's terrace, one's view sweeps over Montalcino's peaceful landscape with its hills, vineyards, slim cypresses, and estates scattered all around. Nestled in the Colli Senesi to the south of Siena, the area comprises approx. 2000 hectares (up from just sixty hectares 50 years ago!).
Descendientes de J. Palacios, S.L.
In the late 1990s, Álvaro Palacios came to Bierzo in search of a new challenge after having achieved great success in the Priorat. Bierzo, in the far northwest of Castilla y León, awaited him with its wild, craggy landscape where heather, rock roses and holly oaks dominate the flora, with its climatic and geological characteristics, and with the fascinating grape variety Mencía.
