Since 1882, Wegeler has been synonymous with excellent winegrowing in Germany. Today, the fourth generation runs the family business with a blend of tradition, foresight and genuine passion – above all for Riesling, complemented by a small proportion of Pinot Noir.
A particular highlight is Krone Assmannshausen, a partner since 2007 and a full member of Wegeler since 2014. In 1860, the cellar still in use today was dug 60 metres deep into the Frankenthal rock – perfect conditions for maturing first-class Pinot Noir. The vineyards around Assmannshausen, on weathered Taunus phyllite slate and deep loess, are representative of the greatness, elegance and ageing potential of Rheingau red wine. The Pinot Noirs captivate with their silky structure, fine acidity and characterful fruit.

Nous n'avons pas trouvé immédiatement la petite maison du XVII. siècle bien que le village de Bouzy ne soit pas très grand. Des bâtiments simples sont regroupés autour d'une cours. Des vignes se trouvent déjà à l'arrière qui ressemblent à un clos.

À environ 400 kilomètres au nord, sur les rives de la Moselle, on trouve un paysage tout aussi impressionnant que celui du canton de Vaud. Comme au bord du lac Léman, les terrasses escarpées sont ici aussi marquées par des murs en pierres sèches érigés à la force des bras. Cependant, au lieu des sols morainiques argilo-calcaires du glacier du Rhône, ce sont d’anciens sols schisteux qui dominent, formés il y a environ 400 millions d’années par la collision des supercontinents Old Red et Gondwana.
